Hackers Bypass WoW Authenticators
Last week reports of a “man-in-the-middle-attack” surfaced in regards to Blizzard’s MMORPG. World of Warcraft. Apparently hackers have created a tool that grants them access to accounts protected by an authentication tool. Once they are in control of the account, hackers can thus steal virtual gold and possessions until the account password is reset.

70% of WoW Trial Accounts Quit Before Level 10
As part of the recent Activision Blizzard financials, Blizzard’s Mike Morhaime talked at length about how the new World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm, will tackle new trial-player retention for the massive MMORPG. According to Morhaime, around 70% of current trial players quit the game before they reach level 10.

Patch 3.3.2 opens the last bastion of Icecrown Citadel to the public as well as the next Arena season. Other changes have also been implemented.

Interview: Blizzard’s Frank Pearce
Blizzard’s Frank Pearce has been with the company since co-founding it in 1991 as Silicon & Synapse, along with Michael Morhaime and Allen Adham. Today, he’s the senior vice president and serves as the executive producer of World of Warcraft, which probably includes the duty of swimming in pools filled with gold coins, a la Scrooge McDuck.
We talked to Frank about the milestones that Warcraft recently hit: 15 years for Warcraft and five for World of Warcraft, and how those games have changed the company.

Blizzard Updates WoW with 3.3 Patch
Another update has come out for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of WarCraft MMORPG. The patch notes for the 3.3 patch has appeared on the WoW servers and it has created quite a buzz in the gaming world. The patch is scheduled to hit the servers from today and is all set to add several new features to the game.

Man ‘Finishes’ World of Warcraft
A Taiwanese man has become the first person to ‘finish’ the massive World of Warcraft massively multiplayer online game.
The gamer’s character ‘Little Grey’ makes him the first to complete all 986 in-game achievements – but it hasn’t come without controversy.

WoW the Chartres Cathedral of the Video Game World
So here’s my theory: WoW doesn’t resemble a film. It resembles, rather, a medieval cathedral. And a magnificent one: it is the Chartres of the video-game world. Like a cathedral, it is a supreme work of art that is, on a brick-by-brick basis, the creation of hundreds of artisans and craftsmen, many of whom will be long gone by the time it comes to completion; indeed, since WoW is in a state of permanent expansion, it may not ever be “complete.” All those programmers are the modern-day equivalent of stonemasons, foundation-diggers and structural engineers.

New Trojan Steals World of Warcraft Passwords
Antivirus company Sophos warns that a new trojan is on the loose, packed in an email that promises photos of sexy girls (don’t they all). The attachment actually contains a trojan horse called Troj/Agent-LVF which tries to steal login info for the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft.
