Steam Distribution Platform to Allow PC-Mac Cross-Platform Play

In one of the biggest boons for Apple computer gaming in years, Valve has announced that its Steam distribution platform will be coming to the Mac in April, with Portal 2 set to be the first simultaneous PC-Mac release.

Sony Calls PlayStation Phone Speculation

The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Sony is involved in a pair of intriguing products: first, a phone that could download and play PlayStation games, as well as an iPad-like tablet device.

PCMag.com phone analyst Sascha Segan tends to dismiss unsourced stories – which, unfortunately, are both the genesis of scoops as well as rumors that are later proven to be unfounded. In the WSJ’s case, the paper’ is banking on its reputation.

Review: Wii Motion Plus

The Wii Motion Plus is a small addition to the Wii Remote, often referred to as, the Wii-mote.  When people purchased this latest generation of Nintendo home gaming console, they purchased it for the motion controls and innovative game play.  While many games worked quite well with the Wii remote, many players complained about the sensitivity of the controls.  With the release of the Wii Motion Plus, the remote becomes everything players originally expected from Nintendo.

Videogame execs say impatient gamers increasingly act like Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory — they want their games now, Daddy, and if you don’t give them what they want, they’ll find somebody who will.

“People have no patience,” said Steve Perlman, CEO of OnLive, a company that is currently beta-testing a service that streams high-def games directly into homes without the need for consoles. “What they want is all media, and they want it instantly delivered.”

Microsoft Unveils SideWinder X4 Gaming Keyboard

Microsoft has announced a new gaming keyboard called the SideWinder X4. Unlike its bigger brother, the SideWinder X6, the X4 doesn’t have a removable number pad.

The X4 is a more basic keyboard that uses anti-ghosting technology allowing the player to press up to 26 keys at once. Each key of the keyboard is scanned individually and can be detected no matter how many keys are pressed.
