Activision Forms Call of Duty Business Unit

Following the events of yesterday’s Infinity Ward firings, Activision formed a new business unit dedicated to producing one new Call of Duty game annually. Their first announced game that we didn’t already know about is a 2011 Call of Duty game in development at the newly formed Sledgehammer Games.

Call of Duty Franchise Sells More than $3 Billion

Activision Blizzard Inc.  said on Friday its “Call of Duty” video game franchise pushed past the $3 billion mark in global retail sales. Overall, the “Call of Duty” series has sold more than 55 million units since its launch in 2003.

Activision Debuts Skateboard Controller

Activision has announced today a brand new Tony Hawk game, the Tony Hawk: RIDE. What’s particularly interesting about this new title is the introduction of a new controller. The skateboard controller is a unique concept so if you love skateboarding you’ll certainly love the RIDE.

No Doubt Sues Activision over Likenesses

No Doubt are taking legal action against the makers of the computer game ‘Band Hero’ for using their likenesses in their new game.

The band had signed a deal with computer game publisher Activision, but have claimed the company did not stick to the agreement.

Activision Establishes Call of Duty Veterans Grant

The game industry is keyed into Activision Blizzard this week, as the publisher gears up to launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Already the most preordered game in both Activision’s and GameStop’s history, the publisher has with no uncertain swagger said that it wouldn’t be at all surprised if the military shooter achieves the highest-grossing launch of any entertainment product in history.

With the mountain of money the game is on track to generate, Activision announced today that a portion of the proceeds from Modern Warfare 2’s launch will go to an altruistic end. The Washington Post reports that the publisher has established the Call of Duty Endowment, a $1 million grant to establish a foundation for helping military veterans find work.
